Hello, friends! There is a new release at Simon Says Stamp called  Sugar and Spice,  and it is definitely full of everything nice! There is so much holiday cheer to be found in this release, and I am kicking things off with several cards today.

Note: all supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.

My first card features the new Wintertime Celebration Plate. I love this plate, not only for its whimsy but also for its versatility. All of the shapes pop out, so you can color them individually and pop them back in. You can pop the shapes out and use them on their own in a custom design. So many fun options! For today, I cut it from two different colors of card stock, and then I offset them, glueing the pink panel on top of the green panel. By offsetting them, the green layer will peek out on one side of the panel. I just trimmed it off so that I was left with a clean looking A2 front. It’s almost like creating a layering die set, especially when you adhere it over a third color, as I did. I added a few white enamel dots to the little starburst shapes, and I also splattered the panel with white acrylic paint. The sentiment is the Large Joy die, and the subsentiment comes from the Reverse Christmas Greetings Sentiment Strips.

My second card features the new Large Snowflake Die. I decided to go with a classic red, white and Kraft color scheme, so I offset a red snowflake on top of a white one and then offset those in the corner of an A2 Kraft card base. I stamped a sentiment in the corner and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. This comes from the new Inside Greetings Holiday Stamp Set, but don’t be fooled by the name! There are plenty of sentiments (like this one) that also work great on a card front. To add a little more interest to the card panel, I searched around in my stash for some small snowflake stamps and found what I needed from an old Lawn Fawn stamp set. I stamped these with VersaMark right onto the Kraft card base. This leaves a watermark look, which just basically darkens the card stock. Finally, I added some white enamel dots around the design.

For my last card, I am featuring sentiments from the new EZ Strips Reverse Vintage Christmas. The font is vintage, but also somewhat grungy, so I wanted a background to match that feel. I started with a red card base and stamped a background with the Old Letter stamp, using black ink. I then ran this panel through the  Blossom Bursts Embossing Folder that came out a few months ago. Next, I took my Black Soot Distress Ink cube and ran it over the raised, embossed edges to bring out the shapes of the flowers. I trimmed my panel down a bit and ink blended around the edges with some dark red ink and Black Soot ink. I splattered the panel with white acrylic paint and then adhered it to an A2 card base that I had covered with a piece of Two-Tone Woodgrain paper from Tim Holtz.

I hope these cards bring a smile to your face. Thank you so much for visiting my blog today. Be sure to visit Simon’s website to check out the entire  Sugar and Spice Release!

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison
