Hello, friends. I hope you are enjoying the weekend. I have been busy in my craft room, and yesterday I decided to put a plan that has been in my head to paper. I created some fun fold cards featuring the new Elf Hat Die  from  Waffle Flower.  I showed this die set as part of the Magical Christmas Release and had mentioned how you can make such quick and easy cards with it. Now I am sharing some fun fold cards that are also quick and easy! And of course, I had to make a bonus card with a new type of “pom pom” that you can put on the hat, which is something I had suggested in my first video for this collection. Free Gift:

Waffle Flower is still offering a free gift with purchase! If you purchase $60 or more from the Magical Christmas Release, you will get the new Masking Corners Stencil. I do show how this stencil works in my first video. NOTE: In order to receive the free gift, make sure to ADD the product to your cart and then apply code “G2507” during checkout.

I do have a new video showing how I made my projects today. You can CLICK HERE to watch on YouTube, or you can view below.

When you look at the front of this card, it looks like any other card made with this  Elf Hat Die  set, right? I mean, it’s still super adorable as just a “plain” card. But watch the video to see the fun fold feature with the hat! The fun fold is made possible by the fact that the hat die does not have a cutting edge at the bottom. The sentiment is the new Merry Christmas Die, which comes with a shadow die. However, I created my own subtle drop shadow effect by slightly offsetting the white words on top of green words. It’s a lot more obvious in person, and it’s so pretty.

Did I mention that I also got to play with my patterned paper stash? It’s always a good day when I get to do that! This particular paper is from Lawn Fawn, and the paper pad is called Knit Picky Winter. The sweater knit patterns are always a favorite for me every year.

Again with this card, the Elf Hat Die  looks like it was just glued to the panel. But, just like the first card, this is a fun fold. You might notice a slight difference at the bottom of these cards. On the first card, the bottom of the hat covers the entire width of the card. That is because I trimmed the sides of that card. So instead of being a typical A2 card, it measures 4″ x 5.5″. This second card is an A2 card, and you’ll see in the video how I made several trims at the bottom to make it look cleaner. The trimmed version on the first card feels a little cleaner looking to me, but that’s what I love about projects like these. I experiment and make changes.

One thing you’ll notice about the hat on this card is that it looks “quilted.” That is because, after I cut the hat, I did quilt it! I used the Meandering Texture Die, which Waffle Flower released a few months ago. This die also does not have a cutting edge, so I was also able to give texture to the front green panel. You’ll see in the video what I mean. Unfortunately, the polka dot pattern of the paper disguises the texture a little more than I expected. In person, it is more obvious, especially because you can feel the “quilting” when you lift that panel up to open the card.

The sentiment is another die from the new release, the Overlapping Vertical Merry Word Die. I love this die, and the vertical nature of it is perfect with the elf hat. In my original card, I made every letter a different color. For this card, I cut it from three colors and then created a subtle drop shadow effect. You can see the original card in my previous blog post

This third card is the bonus card that I had to make so that I could make that little pom pom! I created this with the Felt Sunflower Bloom set from Spellbinders. I used green felt from my stash of old craft supplies. Usually when I stitch felt projects, I use 100% wool felt. But I didn’t have the right color, and this felt has been sitting neglected in a drawer in my basement for years and worked very well. You’ll see I also used it for the border on the hat. The pom pom itself is really easy to make (you can see it in the video), but it is best when you have hot glue. Just a little dab! You’ll see that I quilted my background again with that  Meandering Texture Die.  The hat was made with more patterned paper from Lawn Fawn. The paper pad is called Knit Picky, and I’m not sure it’s available anymore. It’s very similar to the newer Knit Picky Winter one that I used on the first card.

That is it for my projects today. I hope they bring a smile to your face. As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog. Leave a comment and let me know which hat is your favorite!

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison
