Hello, friends! I know it’s been awhile, but I have been taking a little bit of a break lately. I recently went up to Wisconsin for my camp reunion and had a fabulous time. And now I am making a slow reentry into my craft room! Today, I am sharing two cards using products from Yana Smakula’s Poppies Collection that was part of the Spellbinders August release. As always with Yana’s collections, this one is beautiful and full of florals.

My first card features the Poppy Background Press Plate set. As the title of this blog post implies, I hot foiled the press plate using my Glimmer hot foil machine. I used green foil. Notice that the foil is actually in the background. This leaves the flowers available to either color with markers (or whatever you color with), or stencil with the matching stencil set. This stencil set has six stencils and comes in a bundle with the press plate, but the plate is also available separately. You could even just leave the flowers white (or whatever the color of the paper is that you foiled or inked on). There is enough detail with the press plate to define the flowers, which I love.

I did use the matching stencils to color my flowers and leaves. I used Pinkfresh Inks in the following colors: Cherry Blossom, Peony, Begonia, Limoncello, and Bay Leaf. I used a combination of different size blending brushes so that I could add shading. For the sentiment, I hot foiled one of the plates from the All-Occasion Mailbox Greetings set. I cut this out with the smallest stitched rectangle die from the Nested Postage Labels & Tag set. In order to get this rectangle to be the proper size for this sentiment, I used partial die cutting, which is one of my favorite die cutting tricks!

I got such a clean foil with the press plate, that I saved the negative piece of foil. With the help of a solid foil plate, you can use your negative pieces of foil! I used my Pinkfresh Studio solid foil plate because it is the largest one that I have. You just put the solid foil plate on the glimmer machine, lay the negative piece of foil face down onto the plate (shiny side facing the plate), and then you lay a piece of paper on top. Press the timer, run it through the die cutting machine, and voila! I use Hammermill paper when I foil, so this background did start out white. I used the Limoncello and Bay Leaf inks to add color to the background. Did you know that foil resists ink? I also added a little bit of Lucky Clover Distress Ink around the edges.

For the focal point of this card, I used the Yana’s Poppy die. This die set has a large solid outline/shadow die as well as the main detail die. With the detail die, you get a very delicate outline that includes the leaves, and you get the little cutout pieces.  I first cut the main flower from white card stock and then ink blended it with the Limoncello and Bay Leaf inks (and a tiny bit of the Lucky Clover). I glued this green outline piece to the large shadow piece, which I had cut from dark green card stock. I then cut the main flower from a light pink color, as well as a dark pink color. I added shading to the light pink cutout pieces and then glued them into the open spaces of the green die cut. I cut the leaves off of the two pink delicate outline pieces so that I could glue those on top, leaving the green leaves exposed. I hot foiled the sentiment with the same green foil that I used for the background. This sentiment comes from the Birthday Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate & Die Set

I hope these cards bring a smile to your face today. As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog!

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison
