Hello, crafty friends! I have a pair of cards to share today featuring a combination of new and old products from Altenew. The main focal point is the Bird of the Mountain die set. I think this bird is just perfect for a CAS (clean and simple) design, so that is what I did today. And I did it twice! Although, I will let you be the judge as to whether the second card qualifies as CAS. The second card features the new Serene Lattice Stencil from the January release.

I do have a new YouTube video sharing these cards. You can CLICK HERE to view it on YouTube, or you can view it below.

NOTE: all supplies are linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.

I cut all the bird pieces from white card stock and colored them the same way for both cards today. I used the following Fresh Dye inks from Altenew:

  • Peachy Glow
  • Golden Honeycomb
  • Amber Glaze
  • Ocean Waves
  • Dusk

This first card is a classic CAS card. I used the branch from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Whispers in the Canopy and colored it with Moon Rock and Lava Rock inks. I added a very soft ink blend to the background using Sea Glass Ink. The sentiment comes from an oldie but a goodie – the Leaf Canopy Stamp Set.

The second card is still fairly clean and simple – it’s just kicked up a notch. Again, same bird and branch as the first card. But instead of just having a simple, soft ink blend for the background, I added some stenciling. Both the ink blending and stenciling were done with Ocean Waves ink. This adds some very subtle texture to the background. To add a bit more texture, I made some leaves from the Leaf Essentials die set. I colored the leaves with Fresh Leaf and Olove inks. I forgot to mention the sentiment in the video – this is the hello die from the Versatile Greetings die set, and I cut it from black glossy card stock. To finish the card, I added some of the new Pewter Stellar Sequins.

I hope these cards bring a smile to your face today. As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog.

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison

  1. Hi Allison. I am so glad I clicked over to the blog because your cards’ beauty is so much more visible in the still pictures than the video. Your shading and color selection are impeccable. Thanks for a lovely tutorial.

    1. Thank you so much, Polly! I appreciate you watching the video and coming to the blog! I wonder if working on my white glass mat is making a difference in how things look in my videos. I think things pop more on my old black mat, but now that I am back on glass, I can’t go back 🙂
