Hello, friends! Today I am sharing two cards that I made with the Spellbinders collection Yana’s Tulips, designed by Yana Smakula, of course! This is a gorgeous collection that includes the two beautiful press plates that I used for my cards. There are matching stencils, a set of sentiment press plates and a separate die set. Tulips are my favorite flowers, and I hope to one day see the tulip fields in the Netherlands that inspired Yana’s collection. I was lucky enough to see some beautiful daffodils blooming in some of the English gardens on my recent visit to London, though!

For my first card, I used the Tulips and Daffodils Press + Foil Plate and Stencil Bundle. This press plate also comes without the stencil, but boy does the stencil set make it so easy to color! I “stamped” the image with my BetterPress system and black pigment ink onto white card stock. I then used the stencils and the following inks from Altenew to color my florals:

  • Sea Glass
  • Ocean Waves
  • Honeydew Glow
  • Antique Olive
  • Olove
  • Sugar Kelp

For the sentiment, I used the new Bouquet of Hugs Sentiments Press + Foil Plate, which comes with matching dies. I foiled the sentiment with white foil onto black card stock.

My next card features the Windmills and Tulips Press + Foil Plate and Stencil Bundle. Again, this press plate comes separate from the stencil if you want. I, of course, used the matching stencil set to color my image. I first foiled the image with black foil. I have really enjoyed seeing all of the various color combos people have used with this product. For mine, I really wanted to give the tulips some color variation. I also wanted the tulips to be the thing that popped off this card, so I kept my windmills in the same family as the sky color. I did use a LOT of colors for the flower, mainly because as I was coloring them, they weren’t vivid enough, so I started coming in with brighter colors. I also muted the colors that I used on the windmills by coming in with a warm gray. I used the following colors of inks from Pinkfresh Studios and Altenew to color my image:

Pinkfresh Studio:

  • Paradise (windmills)
  • Turquoise (windmills)
  • Ocean Breeze (sky)

Altenew:

  • Golden Honeycomb
  • Baby Pink
  • Amber Glaze
  • Orange Cream
  • Fuchsia
  • Maple Yellow
  • Hazelnut (field)
  • Fresh Leaf (leaves and bushes)
  • Lime (flower stems)
  • Cloudy Sky (windmills)
  • Evening Gray (windmill blades)
  • Reindeer Moss (tulip field)

I again chose a sentiment from the Bouquet of Hugs Sentiments Press + Foil Plate. This time, I foiled the image with black foil onto white card stock. Confession – I messed up one of my tulips while I was trying to add more color, and that’s the great thing about sentiments! Hide those mistakes!

I hope these cards bring a smile to your face today. As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog.

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison
