Hello, friends! I have a beautiful card to share today featuring the new Spellbinders Poet’s Garden Collection.. This is another wonderful collection designed by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. I am featuring elements from several of the floral die sets on my card including Love in the Mist, Wild Violet and Ladybugs, and Double & Single Peonies. The peony set is an older set that was actually brought back out of retirement for this new collection. My color story was inspired by this gorgeous Japanese paper from the newest Your Paper Insider box.

As you can (hopefully) see, these flowers are very dimensional! And it helps to have the right tools to help it get that dimension. To me, the only really necessary tool is a good stylus – or two. I used the Petal Shaper Tool Set from Altenew. The other thing you need is some lower weight card stock. I usually like to use my 110# card stock for my die cut elements, but for molding flowers you really want lower weight paper. Susan Tierney-Cockburn actually has some specialty card stock of her own that is sold by Spellbinders. For my flowers and leaves today, I found some 80# off white card stock in my stash.

I am going to refer you to the product pages for each of the floral die sets that I used so that you can watch the videos of Susan and how she shapes her flowers. Just scroll through the thumbnail images on the product pages until you see the thumbnail for the videos. That is what I did in order to make my flowers. Note that I just did the basic stuff with my stylus tools. I didn’t really do any of the fancy stuff that she does with her tweezers.

To color her flowers, Susan uses markers – I believe she uses OLO markers for a lot of her coloring. For my flowers and leaves, I used a combination of Distress Inks and Zig Clean Color Waterbrush markers. For the leaves, I used Bundled Sage Distress Ink. I smooshed the ink on my glass mat, spritzed with water, and dragged the leaves through that. I then used a green marker to add some faint lines on the bigger leaves, which are from the Double & Single Peonies set. For the large flowers, I used a similar method, starting with Antique Linen and Scattered Straw Distress Inks, and adding more color with a yellow Zig marker. I colored the inside pieces with the green marker, leaving the tips uncolored (again, following Susan’s videos). For the small flowers, I used Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, along with gold pearls for the centers.

My color story all came from this gorgeous paper from the new Box 14 from Your Paper Insider. It is called Dusty Rose Yuzenshi Chiyogami, and it is a gorgeous Japanese paper with just the right amount of metallic gold accents. I picked up on that gold by using gold metallic paper for my sentiment, which is from the Serenade Sentiments Die Set. I used the actual paper to cover my card base, which is 4.5 x 5.75. My inside off-white panel is approximately 3.75 x 5. You can see the paper below (photo courtesy of Your Paper Insider).

I love how this card turned out, and I hope it brings a smile to your face today. As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog.

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison
