2023 has brought some new club offerings, including the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month kit and the Stitching Die of the Month kit. In fact, these new club kits received such an overwhelming response, that they sold out really fast! The Large Die of the Month Kit also sold out. You will be able to join these clubs next month, but if you like what you see, be sure to join fast so that you don’t miss out. If you’re not familiar with the Spellbinders clubs, click here to see all of the details and different options, including several bundles. Of course, the kits are a great value, but I think one of the major benefits over other clubs/subscriptions is that you can cancel at any time and rejoin if/when you want.

NOTE: Spellbinders has a UK online shop now, which includes the monthly clubs – just click here.

Making the Card

Like I said above, the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month kit is so popular, that it sold out pretty fast. You can see from the amazing detail why! For today’s inspiration, I decided to emboss a shape rather than a background. I used the largest die from the Butterfly Card Creator Die Set to cut a piece of heavy white card stock, and then I cut the butterfly in half. Before embossing each half, I swiped an ink pad (Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide) across the flat side of the embossing folder. That is the side where the flowers are recessed. I lightly sprayed both my paper and the inky side of the folder with water before running the folder through my die cutting machine. After removing each wing from the folder, I used a small detail brush to lightly blend some ink on the leaves and centers of the flowers. TIP: To really get the best results out of your 3D embossing folders, the Universal Plate System is recommended. This set of plates is also great for any other companies’ 3D folders, as well as the longer dies in your stash, such as slimline dies. These plates are included in the updated Platinum 6, or you can buy them separately like I did.

I adhered the wings onto a blue A2 card base with foam tape and cut the excess of the left wing off the sides. I created the butterfly’s body from white card stock and inked the edges with the same ink that I used for the center of the flowers (Antique Linen Distress Oxide). I hot foiled my sentiments using Matte Gold foil, and I cut the “Wonderful” using the matching die. These sentiments come from Yana Smakula’s new Anemone Blooms collection that just released last week. Sooo gorgeous! To finish my card, I added some pearl embellishments to various parts of the design.

Matching Tag

I have really enjoyed making tags lately, so I made a matching one for my card that features the ampersand from the Small Die of the Month Club. After cutting the tag shape, I used the 3D embossing folder to emboss it. I followed the same process that I did for my card – inking up the recessed side of the folder with Distress Oxide ink. I used the ampersand from the Small Die kit and cut it from blue card stock. I hot foiled the sentiments with matte gold foil – these sentiments come from the Everyday Sentiments II Glimmer Hot Foil Plate set. Just like I did with the card, I added some pearl embellishments to the tag.

That’s it for my projects today! I hope they inspire you and put a smile on your face. Thank you so much for stopping by today. Enjoy all of the inspiration from the other designers – your next stop on the blog hop is Joy Wilson.

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison

  4. Beautiful color combinations on the card and tag. I really love the tag. I would have never even thought ofusing the ampersand on a tag! Thank you for sharing your creativity and inspiring me.

  5. Oh my, how I wish I had that embossing folder! Your butterfly card is fantastic and perfect!
There are so many wonderful cards this hop- this is one of my favorites!!!!

  6. Lovely card and tag. I have not had luck with the technique of swiping the ink pad on the embossing folder. I may need to try it again. And the idea of cutting the embossed piece with a die is very cool.

    1. Thank you so much, Carole. Have you tried swiping Distress Oxides on an embossing folder? I think it also helps when it’s a 3d folder. I did cut the butterfly first before embossing – that way, I didn’t lose any of the dimension that I would have if I cut it after it was embossed.
