Hello, Friends! A few weeks ago, I shared some cards featuring new 3D embossing folders from Memory Box – click here to see that post. I have one more of these embossing folders that I just recently played with – Tropical Leaves. It comes with matching dies just like the other sets. These leaves are so versatile, but I decided to take them in a fun, cutesy direction and pair them with critter stamps.

Making the First Card

I started by embossing two panels of white card stock with the Tropical Leaves embossing folder. When I use 3D embossing folders, I spray a little bit of water on my paper first in order to prevent cracking. Once I was done embossing, I ran the embossed panels back through my die cutting machine with the matching dies. I inked up my leaves with Distress Ink in the following colors: Squeezed Lemonade, Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon, and Picked Raspberry. Once I was done coloring, I put the leaves back into the embossing folder and ran it through my machine again. You don’t have to do this, but I find that it really brings back more dimension after you’ve die cut the leaves. It’s easy to pop the leaves back in place in the embossing folder.

I took a white A2 card base and splattered Gloss Sprays in the following colors: Lemon, Magenta, and Ocean. I then played around with the arrangement of my leaves, making sure to leave space for my cute little lion that I had colored with Copic Markers. I glued the leaves onto the card base, leaving part of them unglued so that they could lift up for dimension. I popped my lion up with foam tape. I finished the card by adding the sentiments that I had white heat embossed on black card stock. I am really loving these rounded rectangle sentiment dies from Altenew.

Making the Second Card

I had one leaf leftover from the first card, so I decided to make another card and use the cute little monkey from the same stamp set. This card was really easy to put together. I embossed an A2 sized panel of white card stock with the embossing folder. I left it as is and just glued it to an A2 card base. I colored my monkey and fussy cut it, making sure to cut around the tail so that I could hook him onto the leaf. I popped the leaf, monkey and sentiment up on foam tape. I added some white gel pen highlights to the monkey. I then decided to add some to the leaf, as well. I’m always really scared to add white highlights because I’m afraid I’ll mess something up that I’ve spent a lot of time on. This is potentially what happened with this leaf! If I could do it over, I maybe would have still added some highlights, but just in a different way. Live and learn! I finished the card with some enamel dots.

I really love how these cards turned out, and I hope they put a smile on your face! Leave a comment to let me know which card is your favorite. Thank you so much for stopping by today.

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison
