Hello, Everyone! Today I am sharing this bright and cheerful birthday card featuring products from Penguin Palace. Have you seen the new card stock from Penguin Palace? The colors are so vibrant, and the paper is heavyweight at 100lb, making it perfect for card making. I used several colors from the Prism Pack for my card today.

Making the card
To start my card, I decided to stretch the use of one of my die sets. I took the long, pierced sentiment die from the Cinematic Shadow Box die set and cut strips out of my card stock. I then glued the strips in rainbow order to an A2 sized white card base. I love the pierced detail on these strips, and laying them on a diagonal gives the card extra interest.
Next I used the I Made You a Cake die set and cut the various pieces from white card stock. I cut two layers of each piece so that I could add dimension to the final layout. Because I cut the main cake shape twice, I had extra candles. So, I decided to change things up and have five candles on my cake instead of three. I simply cut the candles off of the top of the cake so that I could arrange them in a different way.

For the two frosting layers, I covered each of them with Versamark ink and then heat embossed them using some sparkling clear embossing powder. I wanted to keep the cake all white so that it would pop against the colored strips, but using this embossing powder really gives the frosting the special touch that it deserves. For the candles, I used a thin black marker to add stripes and then a couple shades of yellow Copic markers for the flames. I then used a shimmer pen to make the candles sparkle, as well.

To ground the cake, I cut another piece of white card stock using the larger frosting die, cut the bottom part off, and then heat embossed it with the clear sparkling powder again. I then stamped the “Hooray” sentiment onto some black card stock using Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. This sentiment comes from the Congratulations stamp set. I centered the cake on the card, added the candles, and then cut the black sentiment into a strip to put right below the cake. I love the pop of black on this card.

I really love how this card turned out, and now I just want to add these strips to all of my cards! This card doesn’t necessarily have to be for a birthday, either. If I do want it to be for a birthday, I can add a birthday sentiment to the inside of the card. I love having cards like this in my stash so that I can have options for different occasions.

Thanks so much for joining me today. Be sure to check out all of the fun products in the Penguin Palace online shop.

Wishing you all a crafty day!

Allison
